Beethoven: the 9 Symphonies

Regula Mühlemann, Marie-Claude Chappuis, Maximilian Schmitt, Thomas E. Bauer, Wroclaw Philharmonic Choir, Kammerorchester Basel, Giovanni Antonini.

"Antonini succeeds in nothing less than building a bridge between the historical, musical performance practice and the intellectual-historical tradition of this work ... Strong singers are at his side." (Stereo) "One of the most exciting Beethoven recordings of our days" (Rondo) "Fresh as the first day: Giovanni Antonini knows how to make Beethoven's dramaturgy vivid." (Concerti) These are only a few of the many great reviews for the recordings of Beethoven's symphonies by Kammerorchester Basel (Basel Chamber Orchestra) under Giovanni Antonini. For Beethovens 250. anniversary year 2020, a 6-CD-Set of these "sensational recordings" (NDR) of Kammerorchester Basel is being released.

Giovanni Antonini is one of the most distinguished and charismatic conductors of our time. For many years he has worked regularly as Principal Guest Conductor with the Kammerorchester Basel, an outstanding ensemble that performs both in historical performance practice and with modern instruments. The orchestra completed its Beethoven cycle in 2018 which has been also highly praised by the press. Antonini and Kammerorchester Basel demonstrate in all of their Beethoven recordings how spectacularly new Beethoven can sound. The rousing interpretation, sparkling with musical energy, captivates with its breathtaking clarity and pointed precision. The final movement of the Symphony No. 9 is excellently sung by the Wroclaw Philharmonic Choir, the Swiss soprano Regula Mühlemann, the mezzo-soprano Marie-Claude Chappuis, the tenor Maximilian Schmitt and the baritone Thomas E. Bauer.
