Archimandriet Zacharias wijdde dit eerste boek van zijn hand aan een onderzoek van de theologie van zijn Oudvader, die op zijn beurt geïnspireerd werd door zijn nauw contact met de heilige Silouan de Athoniet (1866-1938). Allereerst zet vader Zacharias de fundamenten uiteen van de Orthodoxe theologie, die de basis vormt van de visie van zijn Oudvader. Daarnaast geeft hij ons gaandeweg inzicht in de voornaamste 'gebeurtenissen' die wij tegenkomen op de geestelijke weg, die zichtbaar werd in deze heilige Vaders van onze dagen. In this context 'theology' is not, in the first place, the fruit of study and thinking, but rather the expression of a living experience: the meeting with God. This was clearly shown in the person of Archimandrite Sophrony (1896-1993). He was greatly inspired by the vision of man as the image of the personal God, revealed in Jesus Christ. Archimandrite Zacharias dedicated this first book of his to a survey of the theology of his Elder, who in his turn was inspired by his close contact with Saint Silouan the Athonite (1866-1938). First of all, Father Zacharias sets forth the foundations of Orthodox Theology, which forms the basis of his Elder's vision. Whilst, in the course of this work, he also gives an insight in the main 'events' we meet on the spiritual path, shown by these holy Fathers of our days. As such this book - originally written in Greek, and now available in Dutch translation - is both an inspiration for our personal life, as well as an incentive towards a serious study of this theology, with its unique answer concerning the meaning of the human person.
