The Nazis Come to Appalachia: and Other Hill Country Stories

Publisher Marketing: The author presents for your entertainment this second collection of Hill Country Stories. The pieces range widely in their content and subject. On one hand, there is the historically based THE NAZIS COME TO APPALACHIA about the German Prisoners-of-War brought to the region during World War II and about the mystery of what they left behind. On the other hand, there is the bizarre account of KNOXVILLE'S FLYING CHARLIE. In between the extremes, you will find fanciful, mystical, playful, and not-so-playful slice-of-life vignettes. All are provided for your enjoyment with a bit of thought-provocation thrown in. The stories are set in East Tennessee and Kentucky, but in them, you will find neither noble stalwarts struggling to maintain some elevated mountain culture nor shotgun toting, banjo picking, ignorant hillbillies. Instead, you will live for a while with real folks who are at once caring, ambitious, desperate, loving, violent, and imaginative. Not having a creative bone in his body, the author has relied for his plots on characters he has known, places he has lived, and historical events that have influenced him in his lifetime in the hills. If the stories appear to be genuine, it is because of this foundation in reality. Still, they are, in fact, fiction. The only exception is FINA, a true account. Nothing in the stories is meant to disparage any actual person, place, or event.
