The single most shocking act of the First World War, the destruction of the Lusitania by the German submarine U-20 outraged the world. A century later, a shroud of mystery still clings to the afternoon of May 7, 1915, as somehow U-20 and the Lusitania came to be in the same spot off the south Irish coast at the same moment, and single torpedo sent the 44,000-ton liner to the bottom of the sea in less than twenty minutes, killing 1,198 passengers and crew.
