Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

On 18th February 1885 Mark Twain's book Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was published in the United States. Ernest Hemingway proclaimed this day to be the beginning of American literature: "There was nothing before. There has been nothing as good since." It is considered to be one of the most remarkable novels of Mark Twain which is adored by many children, but also by many adults as well. The story begins in fictional St. Petersburg, Missouri, on the shore of the Mississippi River. It tells about the journey of "Huck" Finn and his friend Jim, who are traveling on the Mississippi River on a raft. Huck is running away from his drunk and abusive father, while Jim is a runaway slave. As Huck and Jim drift down the river, they meet many new people and experience great adventures. Huck and Jim build a remarkable and strong friendship. Seeing that Jim is a good man, Huck is having an internal struggle and discomfort about what he was being taught: that helping a runaway slave is a sin.
