57 Days
Jim (James) Burns
London, during the blitz, hence the title, the number of continuous days of concentrated bombing on the city. A stricken German bomber attempting to return home releases its bombs on rural England. A secret prison is subsequently destroyed. One prisoner escapes and eludes re-capture. A series of brutal murders instill a fear in the populace far greater than the bombs. Two Scotland Yard detectives are tasked with apprehending the killer. A masochistic ex-soldier is also on his trail, his employer a manipulative, corrupt politician. The story twists, a crippled gait, a word to a tortured mind, a body washed ashore on a Scottish Isle, recurring dreams, missing documents and still the bombs fall whilst a knife tears apart innocent knives. It culminates with a chase across London as hell rains from the skies to reach its climax. Or does it end?
