An exploration of the differences between the current societal definition of some words as compared to the biblical definition. Definitions - are they concrete or constantly changing? We think that dictionaries are the source of definitions for words, but dictionary editors in essence say that society is the source of the definitions. No wonder nice once meant silly, silly meant happy or blessed, and calling someone a bully was once a term of endearment. If definitions can change that drastically over a period of time, is there a chance we have changed the original meaning of some of the foundation words and messages of the Bible? If so, what impact might that have on our relationships with God, with others and on society as a whole?Think about words like believe, faith, hope, love, worship, stillness and many others. How are these words used in society? Is there a concrete definition for each of these words? Are any of the current societal definitions of these words consistent with the biblical definition? Or have they been distorted? If so, what impact might that have on us - on believers, non-believers and society as a whole? Could it be worth exploring?Exploring various aspects from the first use in scripture, including Hebrew and Greek definitions, to the current societal uses and their potential impact on us as believers, non-believers and society as a whole.
