Transfer of Technology As a Variant of Globalization: Technology and Globalization

This book identifies transfer of technology as a dimension of globalization and discusses the relationship between the two phenomena. It draws attention to the assumptions of the idea of globalization as well as the presuppositions and motives of its proponents. The book analyses the nature of globalization as a civilizing, destructive, and feeble phenomenon. It contributes to the discourse on the catalysts and consequences (especially, merits and demerits) of globalization. Acquisition and transfer of technology presupposes the acquisition and transfer of scientific and technological knowledge. We recognize and draw attention to the difference between acquiring and transferring scientific and technological knowledge, and acquiring and transferring technology. They are related. However, they are not the same. One is theoretical while the other is practical. The former can be regarded as the antecedent while the latter is taken to be the consequent. We clarify the distinction by discussing the presuppositions, methods, and the results of the antecedent and the consequent. We also explain the effects of the means of the acquisition and transfer of scientific/ technological knowledge.
