Pineville is having a financial crisis when Glen Lund, the tax assessor is murdered. Sheriff Ericsson is convinced the killer is one of the people cheated by Lund and the mayor. Deputy Wilson keeps the sheriff from embarrassing himself. Retired detective Pamela Lafave steps in when the bumbling Sheriff Ericsson runs out of suspects in the murder of Pam's friend Glen. With the help of Mary Anderson Pam learns the city's money problems are due to an embezzler. Pam and the sheriff's secretary help the sheriff see a new path of investigation without him being aware the tips come from Pam. Could the embezzler be the killer as well?
