The Winter of '43

11 November 1918- Great War Armistice-an uneasy peace descends over Earth. Beneath a supposedly placid surface of world affairs, evil men plot actions certain to lead to a second world war. Cape Cod, summer 1940, a gifted boy wiles away summer vacation dabbling in the emerging science of rocketry. An equally gifted girl, older and wiser, takes a shine to him, slowly drawing him into her world. Is it serendipitous or a carefully laid plan with hidden portents awaiting the inexperienced boy? This story of the duo's rocket adventures, the reader with deep insights into complex scientific arenas by way of simplified and entertaining explanations of real world scientific issues. From the most basic rocket science, the duo press forward with a promising working model rocket which catches the attention of U. S. government officialdom, titans of U. S industry and, sadly, a rapidly emerging German Nazi empire. The Nazis spare no effort to gain access to the duo's work. When unsuccessful, the Nazis resort to grim draconian measures. During their adventures, the duo interact with a diverse array of friends and supporters. But enemies clearly intend to end their brilliant work on an important weapon to be employed in the inevitable Second World War. The story ranges across continental U. S. and Europe. Key, real-world, international players from the story era are drawn into the tale-fictionalized-and made integral story characters.
