Anecdotes of my Childhood in the 1940, China
He Song Shen
There was an old Chinese saying, "It is very hard and rare for people to have a life of more than seventy years old." Now I am 82 years old, with good hearing and eye sight, clear thinking ability, healthy, and my wife is 79 years old, and still we can take good care of ourselves, and we are going to be grand grand parents soon. My son suggests that I write a memoir. I found it interesting, so I spread out the paper and picked up the pen that hadn't been used as a writer for many years. I recalled the past when I was a child with my father, first mother, step mother, and younger sister. It seems to me that all these things happened more than seventy years before were just happened yesterday. I was born in 1940, when the world situation was turbulent and the Chinese society was undergoing earth-shaking changes. People were living hard and miserable, science and technology were backward, disasters were frequent, all people's lives were very difficult. We have the responsibility to tell these stories well, so that the next generation can remember their family history, cherish the present, and work hard to open up the future. Actually we were deeply moved by these stories ourselves as it is no-fiction. It is so important for us to find the importance of land reform operation in China in 1950 and as the importance was not recognized so decades. And we also found we must never forget the true reason why holocaust was happened in China in 1960. Systematic and planned change of the society with good governance is the best way to fight poverty and control new safety threat like COVID-19 Pandemic.
