When Sergeant Roger Downey, a Road Traffic Police Officer, sets off in high speed pursuit of what appears to be a stolen Bentley, he has no idea how that single, routine event is going to turn his world upside down and thrust him into a whirlpool of psychological trauma. A witnessed suicide reactivates a suppressed memory and becomes the catalyst for a quest to identify and engage the powerful forces at work in his fragmented subconscious experience.
An unofficial investigation into an attempted suicide leads Downey to a naïve young man named Paul Munnelly whose own experience makes him an unlikely ally in a shared agenda to expose the spiritual forces that inhabit every "get rich quick" ambition. Munnelly had been enticed into the ranks of a discrete exclusive community populated by wealthy and influential people - a community of ruthless hustlers where there are, no permanent friends, only permanent interests, and where human life is a disposable commodity. Through Munnelly's eyes the outer layers of secrecy are unravelled to reveal an agenda hiding in plain sight backed by societal respectability and protected by a legal framework.
As his investigation climaxes, Downey is forced to confront demons lurking in the smokescreen of his illusory past, a past that conceals a dark secret, a dark secret that has the capacity to either heal or destroy him!
