The Inner Brain Conceptualization and the System Mind D D Wells

Volume I, The Inner Brain and Conceptualization, is a survey of current issues in the philosophy of mind such as consciousness, perception, language, mental representations, free will, etc. There are discussions and theories as to when various human cognitive abilities appeared in our evolutionary history and how they emerge from the workings of the physical brain. This leads to a theory as to how we form concepts of categories of things in the world and how we view and value these concepts. Volume II, The System Mind, makes an analogy with the human mind to model a modern economic system. It discusses how a kind of mind emerges from a complex system like a modern economy in the same way that a human mind emerges from the workings of the physical brain. The following chapters discuss how various aspects of our economic/political system such as foreign policy, social trends and political ideology are the result of the workings of the system mind. There are then a number of chapters to provide evidence and illustrations of the existence of a system mind. The topics of these chapters are the Russian transition, the Kennedy assassination, the 9/11 attack, the Iraq war, and the Woman's Liberation movement. The last chapter discusses possible economic and political trends for the future.
