Although web programming has been the hot topic in recent years, Windows programming is undergoing a rejuvenation. This is partly because web services allow us to take advantage of the Internet even in Windows applications, but it's also a belated recognition that Windows programs offer a much richer experience to the user than browser-based applications. This book will provide an in-depth guide to writing programs in the Windows environment using VB. NET. It will cover everything you need to know to build Windows applications - Windows Forms, User Input, GDI+ and Windows Services. Wrox have many individual books that cover these areas (partially with translation from C#) (e. g. Professional C# GUI Programming, GDI+ Programming: Creating Custom Controls Using C#, VB. NET Windows Services Handbook), and that can be combined into a single, comprehensive volume with a much greater scope than any competing title (see section III below).
