Different from his first book of short stories where Robert Djan allows the reader to see his creative mind, in this second book, he details his life from childhood to adulthood in Ghana, West Africa. Robert's life was far from one of privilege. In fact, it is a story like many others who lived among extended family as a young child and then with his and found their way to the city. Robert however details the steps that caused his ascension. From a child who could barely comprehend what was taught in school, to a brilliant student that goes on to earn many accolades, be a gifted athlete, and achieve the highest level of education. Robert writes candidly about the high points and the low points of his life, and also gives us some very relatable moments that could happen to any child as the experience life while growing up. The message of this book is for everyone, however. No matter life's circumstances, you can achieve many successes and have a life that makes you proud.
