Eve Sanderson is back and is no longer working for the cold case police unit. She has set up her own investigation company; S. I. S. (Sanderson Investigation Services) that claims to investigate a raft of things, including lost and missing persons (dead or alive), and genealogical research to name a few. On this occasion she is engaged by retired school teacher, Hilda Peach, who believes her husband, Bill's, sudden death was not from natural causes. Although very sceptical Eve accepts the challenge but it is not all plain sailing. Once again Sir Thomas Cransley becomes embroiled in Eve's research and his comments, as usual are not always welcome.
