Katharine of Aragon is one of the most famous queens in European history. First wife of Henry VIII of England, she was at his side for over half his reign, loved and honoured, before the king's desire to remarry, for a combination of personal and political reasons led him to try to set her aside. Katharine's determination to resist the annulment of her marriage lasted for years, and resulted in Henry breaking with the Church of Rome.
