Fearful of her future, Elisa Edwards makes a harrowing journey in search of her twin brother Elliot whom she has not heard from in over a year when he told her he had struck gold. Arriving in Ruby City, Montana, Elisa finds homesteaders being burnt out of their lands and meets the James brothers - Morgan and Logan. These Robber Barons control most of the land in the immediate area and it seems they plan to control even more.

Suspecting that Logan knows more about her brother's disappearance than he is willing to divulge, and in an effort to stop the takeover of the town, she takes a job at his isolated ranch teaching his young daughter, only to discover that she might be falling in love with the very man she suspects of killing Eliot.
