Evaluation of Hemoglobinopathies in Resource Limited Set-ups: and In-silico Studies on Iron Binding Proteins

Robust coupling of Socio-Economics & Nutrition is seen in all populations irrespective of Geographies. Anaemia due to nutritional deficiency is prevalent in Asia among Women, lactating & pregnant mothers. Genetic Hemoglobinopathies also contribute to the scenario. In India main reasons of widespread Anaemia in adult female is Nutritional deficiency due to food habit, squat socio-economics & Thalassemia syndromes. This study investigated common yet efficient protocols as Estimation of total & Foetal Hemoglobin, Osmotic fragility of erythrocytes etc to evaluate causes of Anaemia & possible genetic involvement in college going teenage females of suburban Agartala in Tripura, India. To maintain simplicity of the study, the protocols used were carefully selected that didnt necessitate sophistication. HbF was estimated using a well documented method that dont require even a centrifuge machine. Preliminary observations on some Fe Binding Proteins related to Erythropoiesis using Computational Biology Tools are also reported. The work 'll be fruitful if students of Hematology appreciate simplicity of the work & validate outcome of their observations following these technically undemanding protocols.
