Xylanase and Starch Phosphorylase and Their Potential Exploitation: Xylanase and Starch Phosphorylase Enzymes

Industrial enzymes are considered to be the heart of Biotechnology. There is much scope of R & D resulting in developing number of new products and improving the process and performances of the existing products. Here, research work on two industrially important enzymes xylanase and starch phosphorylase are reported. Degenerate primers are designed for microbial endo-1,4-?-xylanase gene. These primers may be exploited for amplification of the gene in a microbe. The approach may be exploited for production of xylanase using recombinant DNA technology. Besides, an alkalano- thermophilic xylanase enzyme is isolated from Bacillus haloduransans. Xylanase has been exploited in number of industrial uses SP is isolated from seeds of Pennisetum typhoides and immobilized on brick dust. The immobilized enzyme is found to have increased thermostability. Increased thermostability of the enzyme and property of repeated use may be exploited for production of glucose-1-phosphate, a cytostatic compound used in cardio-therapy. Commercial applications and Biotechnological exploitation of enzymes are described.
