A team of three scholars travel for their research work from Delhi to Mangalam, a thuruth (island) located on a coastal belt in the Alappuzha District of Kerala. It is believed that a part of the coastal area submerged after a tsunami, and Sree Moolavasam, one of the largest cultural seats of Buddhism, also submerged.
Around 150 years ago, in Mangalam village, a local hero named Arattupuzha Velayudha Panicker (AVP) reflected true traits of Buddhism. He challenged the misrule of his time and was killed at the age of forty seven.
To develop a research proposal for the Dark Age of India, the research team conducts a preliminary study of the local area. A relook on the untold history, they believe, will result in the empowerment of the majority, The Leftover.
The story is narrated by a girl, who completed her MPhil degree from JNU.
