The setting is an unnamed college campus in Kolkata, where Abin, a student caught in the throes of schizophrenia, struggles to shake off the shackles of his illness. Another undergraduate student, the popular Deb, is controlled by an obsession to help victims of mental disorders, driven as he is by his ambition to become a successful clinical psychologist. As the plot develops, the novel, however, not only explores the realities of mental illness but turns the idea of romantic love into something much more. It also probes into the deeper existential questions, questions that seem imperative to resolve, not just for students on a college campus, but also for a wider humanity caught in a world of conflict. The plot is gripping and fast-paced, as both Abin and Deb grapple with their own vulnerabilities, their identity as human beings, and ultimately, with the meaning and purpose of suffering.
