The Jesus and Mary Chain
Celebrating their 40th anniversary, The Jesus And Mary Chain releases a new album 'Glasgow Eyes', recorded at Mogwai's Castle of Doom studio in Glasgow. This venue was also where Jim and William Reid crafted their previously successful album, 'Damage and Joy' (2017), which achieved their highest chart position in over two decades. The latest album showcases the continued evolution of one of the UK's most influential bands. It embodies a vibrant fusion of melody, feedback, and controlled chaos, now more distinctly influenced by their admiration for bands like Suicide and Kraftwerk, as well as a newfound respect for the unstructured nature of jazz.
Though jazz influences has definitely formed parts of 'Glasgow Eyes', it remains true to The Jesus and Mary Chain's distinctive style. The process in the studio was spontaneous and intuitive, much like it was back in 1984. They entered with a set of songs and let the creative process unfold naturally, guided by a sense of musical telepathy between the brothers, akin to the connection found in almost-twin siblings who can intuitively complete each other's thoughts.
'Glasgow Eyes' is more than just a continuation of The Jesus and Mary Chain's legacy; it is a nod to their origins. Since their explosive debut with 'Psychocandy' and its iconic track 'Just Like Honey', the Reid brothers have navigated their career as outsiders who achieved success on their own terms.
